The Mission Bay Aquatic Center is now hiring instructors and camp counselors in the various fields of water sports, from wakeboarding, sailing and surfing, to kayaking and stand up paddle boarding. Whether you are a seasoned pro at any of our sports, or you are less experienced but enjoy teaching and working with kids, there could still be a spot for you on our team this summer.
Have you grown up wakeboarding or sailing with mom and pop and now want to hone in on your boat driving skills? Why not expand your passion and expertise by becoming US Coast Guard Certified or US Sailing Certified through the Mission Bay Aquatic Center. Did you attend camps as a kid and always look up to your counselors? Why not apply as a camp counselor and be that counselor that kids today are looking up to. What ever your level of experience , if you have the desire to be part of the MBAC summer team, we encourage you to apply.
While positions for wakeboarding and sailing do require a little more experience, our core belief will always lie in the love of working with people.
According to Scott Grant, former MBAC lead wakeboarding instructor, to become a wakeboard instructor a candidate will need to be able to earn a US Coast Guard OUPV Certification (Operator of Uninspected Passenger Vessel), USA Wakeboard and Waterski Instructor Qualification, and California Boating Safety Certificate, which requires having experience driving inboard boats. But for the candidate who doesn't have that experience but still loves wakeboarding and would love to share that kids, then a job as a wakeboarding camp counselor might be a better fit.
"If you have a passion for working with kids, but do not have as much water sport experience, then becoming a camp counselor is the position for you,” says Grant as he now supervises and oversees camp operations. “Not only will this opportunity allow you to expand your experience with various water sports, but you will love your job and share your passion for the water with the next generation of surfers, wakeboarders, sailors, and water-goers.”
If you are a natural problem-solver and enjoy working with your hands, or if you are organized and efficient, we are always looking for maintenance positions and front office receptionist positions as well. The bottom line is, WE WANT YOU! There is always room for someone new at the Mission Bay Aquatic Center regardless of your experience; if you have a passion for water sports and a desire to instruct and support people, working at the Mission Bay Aquatic Center is a once in a life time opportunity.
